Storage Networking World (SNW) has selected the GEO Foundation as the winner for its Spring 2010 “Best Practices” Awards Program. GEO Foundation was named winner in the Technology Innovation and Promise category for its excellence in virtualization and storage IT solutions.

Ent Federal Credit Union selected Pikes Peak Prep as a recipient of its Youth Endowment Services (YES) grants for 2010. Introduced in 2000, the YES program directs specific support to organizations benefiting children and young people in the Pikes Peak Region and in and around Pueblo, Denver and Weld Counties. The program has provided total grants of nearly $475,000 to agencies serving education, health care, and cultural needs, among other services.

Based in Indianapolis, Ind., the GEO Foundation has worked statewide to improve public education since 1998. The foundation helped foster support for Indiana's current charter school law and now sponsors three charter schools in Indiana and Colorado, with a total of more than 1,300 students. In addition, it operates a statewide tutoring program, and its Charter School Service Center assists other leaders in establishing and operating their charter schools.

Faced with growing demand for technology in the classroom and growing costs, three Indiana public charter schools found a new Indiana-based start up company that could deliver the product they needed and at the right price. As a result, all three schools were able to afford more technology in the classroom.

Last week I participated in a meeting with U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan in Washington, DC. It was an honor just to be called – and an overwhelming honor to be the only Hoosier invited to participate! Fifty other educational organizations attended this meeting that was to springboard Secretary Duncan’s initiative to improve education in urban centers.

Eighteen seniors accepted their diplomas Monday becoming 21st Century Charter School's inaugural class during commencement at the Genesis Convention Center.

Learning guide Patricia Tatum gave hugs to graduating twins Dentrell and Darnell Smith before members of the class marched from their school to the convention center across the street.

"These are my babies!" Tatum said. "I feel like I am seeing my child graduate."
