About 50 Pikes Peak Prep charter school students will begin using iPads in their core classes this year. It’s a move educators hope will cut costs and expand students’ learning opportunities.

The Star is right to focus on the importance of funding Indiana's 21st Century Scholars program ("Dig deep for dollars for scholars," Sept. 7). The fund is important to help reduce the dropout rate and increase the state's high school graduation rate, especially for low-income students.

Gary mayor visits 21st Century Charter School

Gary Mayor Rudy Clay visited 21st Century Charter School to speak to the student body on Monday, August 30th. With more than 370 students in the gym, from kindergarten to twelfth grade, the Mayor emphasized the importance of literacy, encouraged students to graduate and become successful, and ended with a question-and-answer session.

Every year, InfoWorld honors senior IT executives who have demonstrated leadership within their companies and in the IT community. GEO Foundation's Brian Beck has been selected as one of the CTO 25 Award winners for 2010 for his work to virtualize desktops in an effort to give more of the students at GEO's four schools computer access.

Lacy Sramek pretty much missed the social scene during her last two years of high school because she rarely was on campus.

She wasn’t skipping. She was in classrooms at Pikes Peak Community College.

At her recent high school commencement ceremony, she was handed an associate of arts degree from PPCC along with her high school diploma. And she didn’t have to pay a cent for tuition, books or fees.

“My parents are very excited,” said Sramek, who will start as a junior at Colorado State University in Fort Collins in the fall. “They only have to pay for two years.”

Brush your teeth. Don’t forget mouthwash and deodorant. Pull up the trousers. Comb your hair – and not too much cleavage. Today is internship day. Remember, you will be representing the school as much as yourself.
